Katie Ross-Driscoll- PhD, MPH explains how Medicaid patients face challenges completing required external exams for transplants due to provider availability and insurance issues.
Transcript:
While transplant centers do complete many components of the evaluation, including a cardiac exam, meeting with social workers and examinations with the surgeon and the hepatologist, there are some components of the transplant evaluation that traditionally occur outside of the transplant healthcare system. These components include receiving a breast cancer exam, a colorectal cancer exam and a dental exam. These components might be challenging for Medicaid patients to complete if there are issues finding providers who take their insurance or who are able to complete these examinations in a timely fashion.
