Thomas F. Imperiale, M.D., shares how remote monitoring offers a bright future for public health.
Transcript:
Future studies should focus on evaluating the effectiveness of remote monitoring technologies and telehealth interventions to facilitate colorectal cancer screening because this is unlikely to be the last pandemic, and so health services don’t necessarily have to come to a stop, as we found out. And when it comes to screening, we know now that there are alternatives to colonoscopy, as we did before, but those somehow came more into the public eye during that time. So to be able to offer preventive services to people who do not want to physically come to see the doctor, we would rely on telehealth as we did during the pandemic. So we just need to further develop those, or at least maintain them so that they are available for the next pandemic or the next time that we have to modify how healthcare is practiced.
