Tachinardi named interim president and CEO of Regenstrief Institute

Umberto Tachinardi, M.D., will serve as interim president and chief executive officer of the Regenstrief Institute, effective December 6, 2021.

As Chief Information Officer, Dr. Tachinardi is part of the Institute’s senior leadership team and also is a research scientist with the Clem McDonald Center for Biomedical Informatics at Regenstrief.

He is a professor at the Department of Biostatistics and Health Data Science and assistant dean for Clinical Informatics for the Indiana University School of Medicine and is the director of Informatics for the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute.

He has worked in the rapidly growing field of informatics for more than 30 years. He came to Regenstrief and IU School of Medicine in 2019 from the School of Medicine and Public Health, University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he served in various leadership positions in biomedical informatics and translational research. He also participated in the creation of UWHealth’s enterprise analytics group. Additionally, Dr. Tachinardi served in leadership posts with the University of Chicago, for the Secretary of Health of the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil and the Heart Institute of Sao Paulo University Medical School.

Dr. Tachinardi’s appointment follows the recent announcement that Peter Embí, M.D., current Regenstrief president and CEO, is departing later this year to chair Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Department of Biomedical Informatics. Dr. Embí will also will serve as senior vice president for research and innovation, a newly created position.
