Innovative FHIR-based decision support app named top 10 EHR story of 2020

Readers of Healthcare IT News chose a decision support application created by Regenstrief Institute, Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE), Indiana University Health and Indiana University School of Medicine as one of its top 10 EHR stories of 2020.

Healthcare IT News is a publication from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) covering people, policy and technology driving innovations in healthcare. It published a list of its top 10 most-read articles in 2020 relating to electronic health records (EHRs), which included the app from Regenstrief and partners.

The app, called Health Dart, uses a FHIR®-based system to pull relevant data from the health information exchange into the EHR for emergency department (ED) clinicians. The app collects data relevant to seven of the most common presenting complaints of people in the ED and drastically cuts down the amount of time providers spend searching for the information. Regenstrief research scientist Titus Schleyer, DMD, PhD, is one of the project’s leaders. Health Dart is now deployed at IU Health hospitals around the state of Indiana.

Healthcare IT News highlighted the notable gains in efficiency provided by the app and the future potential of this approach.
