Regenstrief president leads panel at national Health Data Leadership Institute

Data is transforming healthcare delivery, and Regenstrief President and Chief Executive Officer Peter Embí, M.D., is providing insight into utilizing that data to healthcare leaders from across the country. Dr. Embí led a discussion panel in the Health Data Leadership Institute in Washington, D.C.  He is an internationally recognized researcher, educator and leader in the field of clinical and translational research informatics.

The Health Data Leadership Institute provided a forum for healthcare leaders to learn about emerging data management practices that support improved healthcare delivery. The goal of the two-day conference was to inform data-driven transformation strategies. Data leaders from across the country shared their knowledge and experience and facilitated discussions about challenges related to data with attendees.

Dr. Embí led a panel on leveraging clinical data. He was joined by experts from Health Research and Educational Trust (HRET), UW Medicine, and Duke University School of Medicine.

“There is a plethora of available clinical data, with the amount growing daily,” said Dr. Embí. “The challenge is taking this information and applying it to make a meaningful difference in healthcare. This conversation needs to continue as technology, including artificial intelligence, evolves and opens up new opportunities to create evidence-based solutions using these data.”

Topics for other panels included balancing data privacy and use, population and community health, and use case applications of data in value-based care programs.

The Health Data Leadership Institute was organized by AcademyHealth, a professional organization dedicated to advancing the fields of health services research and health policy. AcademyHealth promotes the use of objective research and analysis to inform health policy and practice. This is the second year for the institute.

In addition to his role at Regenstrief, Dr. Embí is the Leonard Betley Professor of Medicine and associate dean for Informatics and Health Services Research at Indiana University School of Medicine. He is also the associate director of informatics at Indiana CTSI and vice president for Learning Health Systems at Indiana University Health.
