We have struggled with the treatment of obesity in the U.S. for decades. My goal is to advance our ability to treat this disease by identifying ways to improve access to and equity of care for patients with obesity.

Dr. Tarik Yuce is a bariatric surgeon and health services researcher who serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of General Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Yuce’s research focus is in the medical and surgical treatment of obesity, with a particular interest in issues surrounding the delivery of timely care. He completed his research fellowship in Chicago at the Surgical Outcomes and Quality Improvement Center within Northwestern University and has co-authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications.

This work seeks to evalaute rates of medical and surgical obesity treatment within the state of Indiana while also identifying barriers to utilization of these treatments.

This work aims to use qualitative methods to determine clinician and patient factors influencing decision-making regarding seeking medical and surgical obesity treatments.
