National health IT leader Micky Tripathi to visit Regenstrief Institute

Micky Tripathi, PhD, MPP, the national coordinator for health information technology at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is scheduled to speak at Regenstrief Institute from noon-1 p.m. on May 29, 2024.

Dr. Tripathi drives the development of the federal health IT strategy at the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC), overseeing policies, standards, programs and investments to advance healthcare technology. He recently led the launch of the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA), which established a universal governance, policy and technical floor for nationwide network-to-network health information interoperability.

Dr. Tripathi’s presentation is part of the Regenstrief Educational Insights and Learning Series (REILS), which brings prominent speakers to Indianapolis to inform and educate. As part of his visit, Dr. Tripathi will meet with Regenstrief research scientists to exchange ideas and perspectives on the future of health information technology.

With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Tripathi has served in numerous leadership roles in health IT, including the chief alliance officer for Arcadia and the project manager of the Argonaut Project. He was the founding president and chief executive officer of the Indiana Health Information Exchange, Indiana’s statewide healthcare data exchange, and president and CEO of the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative (MAeHC), a non-profit health IT advisory and clinical data analytics company.

His experience extends to the boardroom, where he has served in board positions with organizations advancing healthcare IT and interoperability initiatives, including Regenstrief partner Health Level Seven® (HL7®) International, the Sequoia Project, the CommonWell Health Alliance and the Creating Access to Real-time Information Now through Consumer-Directed Exchange (CARIN) Alliance.

Regenstrief’s work with health IT began in the 1970s with the creation of the Regenstrief Medical Records System, one of the first, and perhaps the first, electronic medical systems. Since then, the institute has been a pioneer in the effort to build healthcare interoperability and health data standards.
