Susan Hickman

Susan exemplifies the spirit of the One Regenstrief awardee. In 2023, she served as interim president/CEO while continuing her full-time work as director of IUCAR. In the time she was the interim, she was able to make changes to processes and relationships at Regenstrief Institute that resulted in increased performance, productivity and teamwork. As the director of IUCAR, Susan has been a solid leader of faculty and staff who is invested and active in the daily operations and seeks opportunities to engage and collaborate with both faculty and staff members. Susan’s wise counsel has led to successful research studies within IUCAR, national and international collaborations, improved training and retention of staff and overall superb research and working environment. In addition to Susan’s professional accomplishments, she is a joy to work with. She brings her compassion to work every day and celebrates the growth and success of all who are affiliated with Regenstrief Institute. She is a mentor to many and leads with knowledge, interest, empathy and skill.
