Regenstrief researcher featured speaker at UsAgainstAlzheimer’s event in Washington, DC

Regenstrief Research Scientist Nicole Fowler, PhD, MHSA, was the featured speaker at an UsAgainstAlzheimer’s event in Washington, D.C. The event was the inaugural Brain Health Bash which focuses on spotlighting the importance of Alzheimer’s prevention and dementia risk reduction.

Dr. Fowler’s research foci include patient-centered diagnosis and treatment and her goal is to improve the quality of care and quality of life for older adults with dementia and their family caregivers.

UsAgainstAlzheimer’s is a national leader in Alzheimer’s care and focuses on prevention, early detection and diagnosis, and access to treatments – regardless of gender, race, or ethnicity.  The organization seeks to give a voice to patients and caregivers while partnering with the government, scientists, the private sector and their allied organizations. A few notable partners are Eli Lilly and Company, EISAI Co., Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation and Biogen.

During her presentation on April 18, Dr. Fowler, who is also the associate director of the Indiana University Center for Aging Research at Regenstrief Institute and an associate professor at Indiana University School of Medicine, topics discussed were about the data for early detection of dementia, the importance of systems of care and how to ensure persons with dementia and their family that they are supported at all stages of the disease.

As a Regenstrief research scientist, her work is focused on the development, testing and comparison of evidence-based and patient-centered interventions that improve the quality of care for older adults and their family caregivers, in particular medical decision-making interventions to support family caregivers of older adults with Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Fowler’s research to has been funded by multiple foundations along with the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Department of Defense.

About Nicole R. Fowler, PhD, MHSA
In addition to her role as associate director of the Indiana University Center for Aging Research at Regenstrief Institute, Nicole R. Fowler, PhD, MHSA, is also an associate professor of medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine and director of research for the Division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. She also is an implementation scientist in the Center for Health and Innovation and Implementation Science and a scientist at the Indiana Alzheimer Disease Research Center.
