Joe works hard to ensure actions are being taken to make the Global Health Informatics team’s projects successful. As his co-worker, I know I can come to Joe to get his opinion on work, even if he isn’t working on the project himself. He has a breadth of knowledge he shares graciously with his team. On shared projects, if I introduce an idea, he’s ready to brainstorm and then, before you know it, he has sent the work. He’s always looking for ways to improve the team. He’ll make high-quality videos to help external audiences to address problems, contribute to written works (both editing and providing content), and he often starts initiatives to cover gaps. For example, Joe has overseen the planning and execution of the new “Terminology Service Implementer Series” as a part of the OpenHIE community. He connects with those implementing services like OCL and other terminology tools and works with them to schedule a time for them to be showcased during a monthly call for those interested in TS. You can tell he is passionate about his work in the ways he searches for engaging those who are doing this work and sharing their knowledge. He also has sought out funding opportunities and plays a critical role in planning for the future of GHI – both specifically to projects and as a team. He is a team player who always strives to improve our efforts and contribute with his top-notch skills in whatever ways will make the team successful.
