Configurational Research with Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) and Coincidence Analysis (CNA): Applications in Health Services Research
September 25-29, 2017 | Regenstrief Institute, Inc. | Indianapolis, IN USA
Featuring Prof. Michael Baumgartner (University of Bergen, Bergen, Norway)
and SNSF Prof. Alrik Thiem (University of Lucerne, Lucerne, Switzerland)
The Regenstrief Institute Center for Health Services Research is pleased to offer, for the first time in the U.S., a 5-day intensive seminar exploring configurational research with two experts who are among the most active scientists working in the field today.
Participants in the seminar will learn how to conduct Qualitative Comparative Analysis and Coincidence Analysis in their own projects. In this hands-on course, instructors Michael Baumgartner and Alrik Thiem use concepts, math and concrete examples to teach participants how QCA works in general; how it is fundamentally different from correlation-based statistical methods; how to use the QCA software (provided free of charge), including how to write and execute commands and how to interpret the results; and the strengths and limitations of QCA. Baumgartner and Thiem are publishing and teaching at the forefront of configurational research, and authors of the most powerful software for QCA and CNA.
Seminar location is at Regenstrief Institute, located on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and near downtown Indianapolis. For out-of-town participants, September is a wonderful time to enjoy Indiana and its capital city. Indianapolis offers many different hotels at different price points. Visiting participants will receive additional travel information following registration. Seminar registration includes breakfast and lunch for all five days.

Why Interested Researchers Should Register For This Seminar:
For many, QCA offers an entirely new and different approach to generate new research insights and findings from existing data.
QCA is a mathematical method with nuances that matter. A solid understanding of the math and concepts underpinning this approach is necessary to accurate application.
QCA (and its cousin method, CNA) represent fundamentally different approaches to data analysis than current traditional methods like logistic regression or qualitative research. Using QCA, analysts can mathematically identify solutions where combinations of specific factors that occur together are difference-makers to an outcome of interest. QCA and CNA may be of special interest to investigators in health and health care, where determinants of outcomes can be complex and multifactorial.
Be part of an emerging community of scientists focused on the innovative, and correct, application of QCA in research related to health and health care.
This methodological approach is broadly applicable and appropriate for researchers in other fields, including business, political science, sociology, environmental sciences, and education, among others.
We hope you will join us for this unique opportunity!
